BIRDS-OF-A-FEATHER SESSION
Organizers: Irfan Ahmad, Kenneth Barr, Yury Baskakov (VMWare)
In recent years, full system virtualization (VMware, Xen, KVM and others) has become popular in the marketplace. More applications are now routinely being run inside VMs from the desktop all the way to top tier database workloads. This makes research into workload characterization in context of virtual machine monitors a valuable exercise. At this BoF, we hope to start a discussion with two key questions in this area: How do workloads behave in VMs and how can hypervisors help workload characterization?
